Who Are We?
For the most part, We is Me :) When we is more than just Me, We are a collection of associates I have worked with over the last 14 years, including DBA’s, helpdesk staff, other sys admins, web designers, and developers.
I am Doug Peterson. I am a unix and networking guru, with a particular fondness of production environments, and solving the troubles that plague them. The first glimpse into the rest of my life was the first time I used my 2400 baud modem to connect to a local BBS. Later, In the mid 90’s, I was introduced to my new best friend, the World Wide Web (albeit with a SLIP connection). In 1997, I went to work for a small internet provider near San Luis Obispo, CA, and have been a productive member of the Internet ever since :)
Over the last 14 years I’ve designed and managed production environments ranging from 5 to several hundred servers, including the infrastructure for super bowl half time events, and interactive Presidential townhalls. I’ve designed the infrastructure for the online bill pay, and online payroll for the nations largest banks. I have gained extensive experience with DNS, mail, web servers, SAN, CDN, OS and application performance tuning, call centers, IPsec, SSL, PKI, load balancing, monitoring, log correlation, remote access, long haul circuits, Business Continuity Planning (Disaster Recovery), and many others. I design fully scalable, highly available environments in traditional datacenters, and in elastic computing environments, such as Amazon Web Services, and Rackspace Cloud.
My hobbies are not limited to computers, I also enjoy jeeping, cooking, eating, agriculture, geocaching, and just about anything outdoors.
I’m born and raised in San Luis Obispo County. I lived in the South Bay Area for about 8 years, and I currently live in Atascadero, CA.
